| In February 2008, American Hiking and the Partnership for the National Trails System hosted Hike the Hill: Trails Advocacy Week 2008 in Washington D.C. More than 50 trails advocates met with members of Congress and federal agency staff to enhance federal funding for the protection, maintenance and establishment of National Scenic and Historic Trails and in support of the National Landscape Conservation System Act - legislation that will permanently recognize the Bureau of Land Management's National landscape Conservation System, 26 million acres of great hiking and natural resources in the west. American Hiking engaged Federal Agencies and Congress in celebrating the 40th Anniversary of the passage of the National Trails System Act. A Congressional reception and awards banquet also were held on Capitol Hill. |
